What a hell is meze?
"Go to Cyprus and not to taste meze? Then it can be said that you have not been in Cyprus." Such information was heard before the trip – said by those who has been there and on the Internet, there is so much praise for this dish (or rather, the set of small delicacies), that only thought of it already excited appetite. And you know what? Now, from our own experience, we can paraphrase this saying for "go to Cyprus and not to taste meze? Yes, it is better not to try if you want to skimp.” Did you hear that stingy one pays twice? Yes, yes, pays… even as it happened to us.
First of all, we saw the price, and such an important small part – it should be paid not for the meal, but for a man! We say - please bring us meze and we will share it... No, no, we have heard, we do not do so ... Of course, all who offering, say their meze is the tastiest, freshest and all kinds of best. But no, we are not silly! We must find a place where we will share one meze (we would like only to taste!!).
Vualia! Location was found. "Come girls, I will do one meze for you " - we heard very pleasant female call. Well, restaurant isn’t very fancy, prices are lower than elsewhere. But we just wanted to TASTE (that we could return home being not ashamed).
And finally, we TASTED. We ordered and impatiently waited for those small delicacies. Just as well, as we have heard: first several species in Cyprus growing fresh olives, fresh local bread, fresh salad bowl, red wine marinated octopus ... Did you imagine? We too. And now reality: a few olives, a little dry bread, cold goldfish, several rings of squid, something else that is hard to describe ... Of course, not everything so bad as it may sound, but still not at all what we expected (and saw in the menu picture).
So, the lesson is clear: if you really want to taste this dish, for which, as Cypriots say, you should take time to enjoy, however, it is better to not scrimp and go to a good restaurant (closer to the sea). We learned :) And here is what we tasted next day (with a huge enjoyment):
